It was a long and successful road but for Humboldt’s Brianne Theisen-Eaton but now it is time to take a different road. She announced her retirement from competitive athletics in an announcement posted on weareeaton.com on Jan. 4.

City council met on Jan. 9 for the first meeting of 2017. Part of the agenda was the passing of the traffic bylaw involving recreational vehicles and their distance from the sidewalk.

Two current Tisdale residents and one former resident were recognized by the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame for being part of a legendary University of Saskatchewan track team.

JAEB: Alois April 17, 1922 – December 31, 2017 The death of Alois Jaeb occurred on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK. He was 94 years of age.

MARTIN: Darlene Mary Anne September 13, 1941 – January 1, 2017 It is with profound sadness that the family of Darlene Mary Anne (nee Victor) Martin of St.

THIEMANN: David August March 18, 1949 – December 28, 2016 The death of David Thiemann of St. Gregor, SK occurred at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt SK on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. He was 67 years of age.

It has been a bit of a struggle thus far this season for Humboldt’s William Dutton but Dutton’s season is beginning to turn around. Dutton recently captured the Canadian National Single Distance Championships 500m Canadian title in Calgary on Jan. 5.

Nipawin is closing the door on an eventful year which included the start of construction of a new pool and landfill, a grant for the water treatment plant, an expensive and empty Evergreen Centre and the election of a new mayor and council.

The North East School Division is reporting that students are improving in reading, writing and arithmetic.
