It all started with a rain shower July 6 at the farmyard of Arlene Walker. Guests had to take shelter in Almlia Hus or the tent for the first half hour or so as the Sons of Norway held a picnic for members, families and friends.

Ghosts always fascinated me when I was growing up. They still do. I remember buying books from the school book fairs explaining, in a child-friendly manner, supernatural events from around the world.

In1910 a parcel of land south of the CN Railway and west of what is now the Don Ross Center was the location of the fair grounds and race track. In March of 1920 a meeting was held to organize North Battlefords first golf course.

Canada's greatest living fighter ace, 93-year-old Stocky Edwards, is a legend in aviation circles. But at heart, he's just a simple boy from Battleford. I visited Stocky and his wife Toni last week at their lovely ocean-view home in Comox, B.C.

It's a big weekend for Battleford, starting Friday with the opening of the 2014 Saskatchewan Handcraft Festival. The festival is organized each year by the Saskatchewan Craft Council and draws crafters from across Western Canada.
