The Battlefords Regional Optimist came away from the weekend's Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association convention with six more awards to hang in the foyer of the Battlefords Publishing building.

The efforts of staffers at City Hall to clean up the city April 9 were hailed by their city manager Monday. "It was a great team-building exercise for us," Jim Puffalt said to reporters following the council meeting.

The Association of Saskatchewan Realtors in conjunction with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has honoured local Realtor Alexander (Al) White with a Distinguished Realtor Award.

In a story published in the April 10 Regional Optimist, "Funds to aid teenage girl empowerment program," the program receiving funding from Association of Saskatchewan Realtors Legacy Grant Program in Saskatchewan was misidentified.

A former manager of the Wilkie swimming pool has been awarded a Royal Life Saving Society of Canada Volunteer and Lifesaving Award.

The youngest candidate in the North Battleford council byelection race is now the youngest, and newest, member of council.

The weather was inhospitable for mayhem makers, but Battlefords RCMP were still called to more than 25 calls for service/occurrences between 6 a.m. Wednesday, April 16 and 6 a.m. Thursday, April 17.

The visitor information centre will no longer be operated by the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce as of April 30. The changes had been in the works for a few months but the news was made official by the Chamber Monday.

Battlefords RCMP say the investigation into an alleged attempted child abduction at the Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre Tuesday is ongoing.
