After the final weekend of the SPHL's regular season, the Cut Knife Colts finished the season in first place. The Colts split their final two games of the season. Cut Knife travelled to Glaslyn to face off against the North Stars Jan. 29.

Battlefords North Stars goaltender Michael Gudmandson picked up two SJHL awards this week. Gudmandson was named the SJHL's goaltender of the month for January. Over the course of the month, he won seven games, two of which were shutouts.

The Battleford Beaver Blues and Meota Combines enter the 2014 SPHL playoffs with losses to the Spiritwood Timberwolves.

The Battlefords North Stars penalty killers took over Thursday night's game against the Nipawin Hawks. Blake Young and Jack Petrino scored shorthanded goals in the North Stars' 4-2 win over the Hawks in front of the largest crowd of the season.

Lane Pederson had two goals for the Saskatoon Blazers as they downed the Battlefords Stars in SMAAAHL action Wednesday night at the Civic Centre. The defeat snapped the Stars' nine-game winning streak.

The Battlefords Atom AA Barons Tier 1 team finished second at a tournament in Prince Albert last weekend. There were 10 teams in the tournament divided into two pools.

The Maymont Settlers are one of the hottest teams in the SPHL. The Settlers stretched their winning streak to six games with wins last weekend over the Perdue Pirates and the Glaslyn North Stars.

The Wilkie Outlaws are the hottest team in the NSRHL. The Outlaws have won their last 10 games after winning twice last weekend. Wilkie started off their weekend with a 6-4 win at home over the Maidstone Jets Friday night.

Battlefords native Matthew Hudec will be participating in two upcoming international biathlon competitions. The first competition is the International Biathlon Union Open European Championship held in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic from Jan. 29 to Feb.
