Last weekend was a busy one in the SPHL with seven games taking place between Jan. 10 and 12. There were two games Friday night. The Cut Knife Colts beat the Mustangs 10-6 in Hafford. The Colts were led by Kirk MacDonald's hat trick.

It was a special weekend for many former players who represented the Battlefords in the SJHL.

The Humboldt Peewee AA Broncos got off to a good start in their provincial play downs with two wins over the Battleford Barons at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

Despite a need for some scoring up front, the Humboldt Broncos stayed quiet at the SJHL's Jan. 10 trade deadline, opting to stand pat rather than shake things up.

Thanks to a busted pipe under the ice at the Elgar Petersen Arena, the Humboldt Broncos' game against the Melfort Mustangs, scheduled for Jan. 12, was cancelled. The game will be rescheduled to a later date.

The Battlefords Beaver Blues will have their own Hockey Day in Canada celebration this weekend. Battleford is hosting Minor Hockey Night for Saturday's game against the Maymont Settlers.

Keeping trackof six games is not difficult, it's impossible. Especially when you are looking at sheet one and the fall champion.When it comes to throwing the final rock in the end, you do not want to be looking at seven.

Battlefords North Stars left winger Jake McMillen has been named SJHL player of the week for the period ending Jan. 12. In three games last week, McMillen scored four goals and added two assists.

The defending SJHL champs had a rough time of it Saturday night against the streaking Battlefords North Stars. The North Stars got over a slow start to score three unanswered goals, and took down the Yorkton Terriers 3-1.

The Battlefords AAA Stars started off 2014 with three straight wins this past week in SMAAAHL action. Josh LaFramboise was the star of the weekend with five goals and six assists in the three games.
