The new leader of a new Saskatchewan political party has been in Estevan Saturday.

Several members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service were part of an international tribute to the 343 New York firefighters who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The newly-formed Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan has their candidate for the Estevan constituency in the upcoming provincial election. The party has announced that Phil Zajac will represent them locally on the ballot.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have recognized an Estevan man as one of their SaskTel Everyday Heroes. The Riders announced on Sept. 8 that they were saluting Kevin Sutter for Sutter’s efforts to go above and beyond.

Another first-time candidate has filed nomination papers for Estevan city council in the upcoming civic election. Kirsten Walliser, who is a long-time resident of the community, submitted the necessary forms Friday at city hall.

There are 13 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Sept. 11, according to the Ministry of Health, bringing the total to 1,688 reported cases. Seven of the cases are in the central east region.

The carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Power Station had another excellent month in August, setting a new 2020 mark for the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) captured.

As Saskatchewan continues to re-open and students return to the classroom in September, the “new normal” is going to look different. It may not include full competition in the vast majority of sports, both inside and outside of school.
