The sports scene in southeast Saskatchewan started like any other in 2020, with plenty happening in the first two months. Then COVID-19 hit, scuttling many events and changing others. Still, there were plenty of highlights this year.

Most years, I’ve penned an opinion piece of why I’m looking forward to the following year. It’ll have the reasons you’d expect. Coming events. Fundraisers. Hockey games. Cool stories. Maybe an election.

This year was indeed a different one. While the pandemic was already starting in China at the beginning of 2020, there weren't many signs of it on this side of the ocean.

A number that is associated with perfect vision definitely didn't play out in people's favour this time.

There are 208 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Dec. 28 and 29, bringing the provincial total to date to 15,022 cases. On Dec. 28, there were 94 new cases. The following day, there were 114 new cases. For Dec.

The City of Estevan and other communities in southeast Saskatchewan are among 66 from across Saskatchewan to be approved for grants totalling $750,000 from the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund.

The Estevan Police Service is investigating a dog’s death, after it was attacked by another dog. The EPS says it received a report Dec. 28 of the dog attack at a local school’s grounds.

There are 559 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from the last three days, bringing the provincial total to date to 14,814 cases. The data update includes information for Dec. 25, 26 and 27.

Update: The Saskatchewan RCMP Underwater Recovery Team has located the body of the 25-year-old man who went missing on Grant Devine Lake (formerly known as Alameda Dam). The remains were found at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
