The Canora Novice Red team was one of four teams that competed in the round robin Kamsack Novice Flyers minor hockey fundraiser tournament on February 10, 11 and 12.

Fifteen Canora Squirt players took on seven Norquay North Stars in Canora on February 12. The Squirt players were super excited for this “real game,” said Genevieve Shukin, manager of the Canora team.

The Canora Novice Black hockey team won two league games and lost a third in the past two weeks. On February 4, Canora defeated Langenburg 15-8 in Langenburg, said Cindy Sznerch, team manager.

The Sturgis Curling Club hosted two separate fun bonspiels, a mixed and a kids’ bonspiel from February 13 to 17. There were 10 rinks entered in the mixed event and 11 rinks entered in the kids’ competition.

Two Preeceville Harvard Air Cadets did well at the provincial biathlon competition held at Camp SaskCadet at Round Lake on January 20. Janhia Irelandez and Lezlie Morales each skied to a silver medal in the junior female category.

The Endeavour Open Bonspiel, held February 9 to 12, attracted nine teams. "Curlers enjoyed the challenge of curling on real ice," said Scott Giddings.

Curling is one of the world’s oldest team sports. Canada has undoubtedly taken a keen interest in the sport, with world championships and Olympic gold medals to prove it. On a smaller and closer scale, curling is Saskatchewan’s provincial sport.

On Feb. 11-12,the Saskatchewan Provincial 4-H Curling Championships were held at the Yorkton Curling Club.

The Yorkton United Football Club’s U16 boys’ team travelled to Winnipeg last weekend for the 2017 Winnipeg Golden Boy tournament.

The Yorkton Elementary School Sports Association (YESSA) boys’ basketball championships were held on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at MC Knoll School. The final was held between MC Knoll and Yorkdale Central School.
