Junior curling teams from Sturgis, Preeceville, Canora and Norquay had fun and received some extra ice time prior to districts that were held in Yorkton on January 27 and 28. The mini bonspiel was held at the Sturgis Curling rink on January 24.

The Sturgis Composite High School junior mixed curling team was declared the East Central district champions during the junior curling districts held in Yorkton on January 27 and 29.

The Preeceville peewee hockey team faced its first loss of the season when the team was defeated by Yorkton on January 25 in home game action in Preeceville. The final score was 3-2. Scoring for Preeceville were Seth Hort and Kaiden Masley.

Happy New Year everybody! I bet that most of you have made a New Year’s resolution to shed a few pounds, and being physically active ought to be a major part of that. Skiing would be a great activity in an effort to burn off a lot of calories.

Two Preeceville School curling teams brought medals home from the East Central District competition played in Yorkton January 27 and 28. The school’s junior mixed curling team brought home a silver medal.

Willy’s Wonderkids was the winner of the A side of the Canora Flames tournament held January 20 and 21. Players in the four teams participating were selected by draws, and it was a round robin format, said James Trofimenkoff, an organizer.

The Canora Peewee Cobras hockey team won one game January 20 and lost a second game the next day. At the Canora Civic Centre on January 20, the Cobras defeated Kamsack Flyers 7-5.

The Canora Composite School’s junior girls basketball team returned from Yorkton January 21 having won all three of the games played at the Yorkdale tournament.
