Fourteen teams are participating in the Kamsack Curling Club’s 2016-17 season. The teams, which number from four to six players who are between 12 and about 80 years of age, curl regularly on Thursdays at the Broda Sportsplex during draws at 7 p.m.

The Hilltop 4-H Club held their District 12 4-H curling bonspiel this past weekend in Yorkton. A total of nine teams took part in the bonspiel – four junior teams and five senior teams.

Canadian Wrestling Elite (CWE) is returning to Yorkton with another event – the New Heights Tour. The event will take place at Yorkdale School on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The U12 Girls of the Yorkton United Football Club captured the gold medal at the Regina FC soccer tournament over the weekend of Dec. 16 – 18. This is the second consecutive tournament that the U12 girls have medalled.

The Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA), in partnership with the Western Hockey League (WHL), will host the inaugural Bantam SaskFirst Preparation Tournament.

One football star from Yorkton will be taking his talent down south in January to compete against some of the best young athletes in Canada, the United States and Japan.

After a close semi-final match up, Yorkton has made it to the final round of the SnoRiders Sledtown Showdown competition. After polling closed on Dec. 20, Yorkton came out on top of Beausejour, MB in their semi-final match.

2016 was a big year for sports in Yorkton. Narrowing the biggest moments down to ten was difficult. The top ten most notable have been decided. Below is the first half of the list. The second half (the top five) will be in next week’s edition. 10.
