The first football games of the 2012 season in the Battlefords were underway Tuesday.

The Saskatchewan Mixed Team Golf Championship was underway on the weekend in Swift Current and 60 teams hit the links. The tournament featured several local couples competing.

RCMP across Saskatchewan will be taking part in a traffic safety blitz during the Labour Day weekend. The "enhanced enforcement focus" will begin Friday and continue through Monday, with the focus being on the province's highways.

It is time to drop the puck on the Battlefords North Stars' season - or at least the pre-season. Registration and fitness testing begins Friday at 11 a.m. with 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. practice for the 50 players anticipated to be at camp.

August 31-September 2Battlefords North Stars will hold the team's annual tryout camp for the 2012-13 season at the North Battleford Civic Centre. Game sessions are at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

Two pair of roller skates, a GPS and a wallet were stolen from a Dodge Caravan parked on the 1100 block of 108th Street in North Battleford Aug. 16.

Even though we have had several heavy rain showers during the past week, swathing is going ahead in some places. Harvesting is not general as yet. The calendar does not say that we have entered the "fall" season but nature tells us differently.
