SPIZAWKA, VELMA: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Velma Audrey Spizawka on April 5, 2013. Velma was born on May 26, 1934 in the community of New Finland, SK, to Jack and Irene Tuokko.

HETLAND : Mrs. Lillian Hetland (nee Larson), 94 years of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson and formerly of Spalding, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, April 3, 2013.

Rose Anne Schwindt: December 31, 1917 - March 31, 2013 The death of Mrs. Rose Anne (nee Weisgerber) Schwindt of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, SK, (and formerly of LeRoy), occurred at her residence on Sunday, March 31, 2013.

There's a new deputy in town. Darrell Wickenhauser is Humboldt's new Deputy Fire Chief and building inspector. He began his new, full-time job on March 25. It's a somewhat new position within the City of Humboldt.

They don't make sense. That is the common voice heard around the region when talking about the new proposed Federal Electoral Boundaries for the Humboldt area.

It was a week of writing, talking, and talking about writing. The Pelican Bay Arts Collective held its annual Poetry and Literary Festival from March 23 to 27.

Housing is on everyone's mind in a growing city. During a regular meeting of Humboldt City Council on March 25, City Manager, James Moller, presented a housing report to Council.

They lost one game, but didn't allow a tie The Humboldt Broncos went north to Flin Flon for Games 3 and 4 of the Northern Conference final on March 26-27. Up 2-0 in the series, the Broncos had to win both games to clinch it in four.

Housing is a major issue in Humboldt. During a regular Humboldt City Council meeting on March 25, Darrell Classen presented his proposal for building an affordable housing apartment building on the 500 block of 9th St. south of Schenn's Farm Supply.

It was a good year for the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC).The HDCC held their annual general meeting on March 19 at the Pioneer Hotel.
