There's a new interim fire chief in Humboldt. With Humboldt Fire Chief Norbert LeBlanc retiring on December 21 and no one yet hired to replace him, Mike Kwasnica has been appointed the Interim Fire Chief by the City of Humboldt.

LOOSE - After a short but courageous battle with cancer, the family is very saddened to announce that Mr. Leon Loose, 70 years, of Humboldt passed away at Humboldt District Hospital on Saturday, December 15, 2012.

City, Humboldt schools agree to joint usage of facilities

It was an exciting prize for a local couple. Tricia and Daniel Bosshard of Middle Lake won one of the $25,000 prizes in McDonald's Monopoly game this year. The couple was presented with their prize on December 12 in the Humboldt restaurant.

Home ice was better for the Humboldt Broncos as they faced the Weyburn Red Wings for the second time in a week on December 14. Unlike what happened in Weyburn, the Broncos dominated the play for the entirety of the game, posting a 4-1 victory.

His first win for the Broncos was a shutout. Michael Gudmandson, Humboldt's new netminder, won his first game for the Broncos on Sunday, and recorded his first shutout for the team at the same time.

Their depth has been replenished, but his competitive spirit hasn't allowed him to be happy with his team's erratic play so far this hockey season.

The world was shocked last week when 28 people - 20 of them young students - were killed by a lone gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
