HUMBOLDT — Gail Maki was 12 years old when she was first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. That was 43 years ago. Over time, Maki stopped feeling the highs and lows associated with her blood sugar levels.

MELFORT — Hope for a third period comeback was crushed for the Melfort Mustangs as the Battlefords' North Stars used the final minutes of the game to sew up a win. In the first game of the finals on April 12, the Mustangs were defeated 6-2.

EAST CENTRAL — Efforts to improve literacy among students in the Horizon School Division are having an effect.

CARROT RIVER — A volunteer that’s active in local causes like KidSport and a program that provides food for students in need has been selected as Carrot River’s citizen of the year.
