NIPAWIN — Nipawin’s LP Miller Comprehensive is joining a province-wide effort to enhance the relationship between teachers and their First Nations students so the students are successful in school.

As manager of the Humboldt Commons, Mel Lamb has been watching the project take shape over the past couple of months. Now the project is reaching completion with contractor Dave Ireland and his crew putting the final touches on the first store space.

NORTHEAST — The North East Aces female minor hockey program is truly going regional, ensuring local girls have a team to play on. The Tisdale, Melfort and Nipawin minor hockey associations have signed an agreement to run the program together.

June 2 is going to be a fun filled day for the ladies of Humboldt and area with the fourth annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Diva for a Day golf tournament.

SASKATCHEWAN — Saskatchewan’s premier and leader of the opposition weren’t expecting that the federal government would offer $4.5 billion to buy the Trans Mountain pipeline from Kinder Morgan.

Recent tax changes are going to make Humboldt more competitive, said city councillors during the May 28 council meeting. Councillors recently approved changes to the tax bylaws with an average two per cent increase for residential properties.

CARROT RIVER — The highway crosswalk on Highway #23 just south of 3rd Avenue will be replaced this year. The town agreed to pay half of the almost $33,500 cost of replacement, with the provincial highways ministry paying the other half.

It was a long journey for Rance Cardinal but he arrived safely in Humboldt to a crowd of cheering Humboldt and area residents, as well as many of his friends and family. Rance’s walk took him from Sioux Lookout, Ont.
