Battleford violin student Victoria Mahmood has won a 2013 Royal Conservatory gold medal for scoring the top mark in Saskatchewan on the Grade 3 Violin examination. Victoria is the daughter of Therese and Dr. Yasin Mahmood.

Borden Friendship Club started bingo season Nov. 21

The Borden Friendship Club held their first bingo of the season Nov. 21 with quite a number out to play in the cold night. Winners received $15 and tiebreakers a consolation prize.

Jimmie and Greyson Stewart of Lloydminster stopped in to see grandma Jean Stewart on their way home from North Battleford where Greyson was playing hockey.

Seniors active with cards and bingo

Cards were cancelled Nov. 11 as a number of Maidstone Drop In Centre members wished to attend the service held at the Legion Hall. Bingo was played Nov. 13 with Margaret MacEachern and Jean Hartman doing the calling. Tillie Linkert provided lunch.

Heritage group hosts Christmas program

Santa Claus visited in Waseca Dec. 1. He came to the community centre where he was met by an excited group. The Waseca Heritage Group is sponsoring a Christmas celebration at 2 p.m. Dec 22.

It was 1908 when Charlie Davis donated a windswept acre of prairie at Lilac for St. Mary's Anglican Church. Lilac bushes and a stone cairn now mark the spot where the church once stood.

Still revelling in Rider Pride, I love seeing all those green flags on cars and homes. It's a weird feeling to be watching Olympic curling trials this week and still be talking about the Riders.
