Local dancers earn awards

Local dancers fared well at the 24th annual Svoboda Dance Festival held at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts May 2 to 4 where 40 solo awards, 35 duet awards, 24 group awards and six adjudicator's choice awards were available.

Warm weather has inspired the gardeners

Rose Danychuk was pleased to have her sister Mildred and Len Prokop of Saskatoon spend a day with her. Marion Stoughton took me to Saskatoon for a medical appointment. She visited a short while with her daughter Collett and family.

Nature continues to surprise us. Recently one evening, I discovered a raccoon on my deck and decided it was time to buy an animal trap. After several days trying to catch the raccoon, I decided to concentrate on the squirrels.

Yvette and Brian McGown of Belbutte celebrated their 65th birthdays, which are one week apart, on the evening of May 31 in the Belbutte community hall. There was a full house of well wishers who sang Happy Birthday as well as giving many cards.

Herb Troesch was born May 20, 1914 in a log home on SE 6-49-20. The Troesch family continue to farm that same land today. Herb was the second child and eldest son of Jake and Mary Ann Troesch of Edam and younger brother to Lena.

Two MCS students qualify for provincial track and field meet

The high school track meet was held May 25 and 26 in North Battleford. The weather co-operated so all the events were able to be completed. The school sent a full team of athletes from students in Grades 7 to 12.
