The Humboldt Broncos' season is over, and it couldn't have ended in a more agonizing way. The Broncos lost their playoff series with the Yorkton Terriers in five games, but to say only that would be to miss a far larger point.

The Battlefords Sharks handed out awards for their 2013-14 SFMAAAHL campaign Saturday night. Jetta Derenoski was named the team's most valuable player. She finished the season with 12 goals and 11 assists in 26 games played.

The Battlefords Stars wrapped up the 2013-14 season with their annual awards banquet Saturday evening. Friends, family, billets and volunteers were in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of the team from the past season.

Local baseball will soon be hitting the ball parks. The NSRBL held their annual general meeting Sunday night to plan for the 2014 spring season.

The Battlefords North Stars wrapped up their 2013-14 season with a final team dinner Tuesday night at the Civic Centre. Following the dinner, the team handed out the final two awards of the season.

North Battleford's Steven Latos will be returning to the Saskatoon YellowJackets' rotation for the 2014 Western Major Baseball League season. Latos is currently pitching for Northwood University in Midland, Mich.

The Wilkie Outlaws were clearly in no mood to settle for just one title. That could be said about the Outlaws' 4-1 victory over St. Walburg Eagles to win their second straight North Saskatchewan River Hockey League title.

What a difference a week makes. A week earlier, the Battlefords looked like they had two potential champions in the making in the Battlefords North Stars and the midget AAA Stars.

Starting with the rookie of the year award won by Dustin McAleer and ending with the Sask West Hockey League playoffs' most valuable player trophy going to Cory Grant, a total of 11 awards were handed out at the Unity Miners' Awards Night March 28.

The host Battleford Volleyball Club Blaze won fifth place of Tier 3 at the 14U women's Subway Sask Cup No. 2 tournament held in North Battleford last weekend. The Blaze downed the Martensville Outerlimits 2-0 (25-19, 25-11) in the fifth place game.
