After one of the most successful Battlefords Midget Stars' season in recent memory the team definitely had many things to be proud of as the program moves forward.

The New Horizons brought curling to a close March 26 when they held a mini-money spiel with everyone playing a minimum of three games. No one came away rich, nor was there anyone destitute when the last rock was thrown.

March 28 1973 - Basketball great Wilt Chamberlain plays his final National Basketball Association game. He retired with 31,419 career regular season points in 1,045 games.

Northwest Saskatchewan sent several players to both the midget and female midget zone camps in Regina on the weekend and all the players at the tournament impressed, as most were looking to catch the eyes of the scouts.

The Battle River Archery Club's Indoor 3D Shoot over the weekend of March 24 and 25 was the first to be held in their new facility, the former curling rink in Battleford.

It was a fun tournament, but serious play.

Many local teams headed off to HOOPLA in Saskatoon last weekend and a couple came back with medals. The Three Lakes School 1A Girls' basketball team came home from the provincial tournament March 22-23 with a silver medal.

The 90th annual Men's Open Bonspiel held in North Battleford March 21 to 24 attracted 28 rinks with the top prize going to a local rink skipped by Barry Massett.

The Humboldt Broncos shoved a couple of wins into their back pocket over the weekend, as they faced the Flin Flon Bombers in the first two games of the Northern conference final.

Freshman forward Bryce Gervais and the Minnesota State University Mavericks hockey team played in front of 15,971 fans at the Xcel Energy Centre March 21. The reason was the 2013 Red Baron WCHA Final Five game.
