The season was on the line Friday in Meadow Lake, as the John Paul II Crusaders played the Meadow Lake Carpenter High School Spartans in the final regular season of the Northwest Nine Man Football League. It was a win and you're in situation.

The Battlefords AAA Sharks played their first game on home ice Thursday, but it was the Prince Albert Bears that put on a show at Battleford Arena. The Sharks introduced their 2012-13 roster to local fans, but after that it was all Bears.

Despite the frigid temperatures, the North Battleford Comprehensive High School's cross-country running team competed at the Battle West District meet in Spiritwood Oct. 4.

It took longer than the players and coaching staff of the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings would have hoped, but the senior football team earned their first win last week.

Although the Battlefords North Stars had 12 days between games, the rest of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League teams were in action and weekly awards and rankings were released.

After the quarter-final North Battleford Touch Football League game between the Broncos and Wanderers was postponed last week they did face off Oct. 4. Since then, the semifinal games have been played and two teams remain.

The Battlefords Midget Stars have earned three points in their first four games and find themselves in the middle of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League standings.

The Martinsville Saints just couldn't hold onto the football against the John Paul II Crusaders Friday night.

Former Battlefords Midget Star and North Star, Justin Waskewitch of Cut Knife is back in his home part of the province for his final year of junior hockey. Friday, Waskewitch was acquired by the North Stars from the Nipawin Hawks.
