The Battlefords Midget Stars earned their first pre-season win in Saskatoon, thanks in large part to the goaltending duo. The Stars faced the Blazers Friday and Ryan Rewerts and Rylan Toth split time in the net for the Stars.

The John Paul II Crusaders entered their second game of the regular season and were looking to win back-to-back games for the first time ever and pass last season's win total.

The pre-season came to an end for the Battlefords North Stars Sunday, as they finished with a 2-3 record.

The New Horizons golfing season is coming fast to a close. Monday, 45 came out to play on a cool but sunny day.That was eight more than the average for the past season.

Many curlers in the Battlefords and area are anticipating the opening of the new Northland Power Curling Centre in the CUPlex and it is likely less than a month away when the season will begin.

While Benton Gieni attended Unity Comprehensive High School he played a big role on the Warriors football team. He graduated from high school and went on to the University of Regina where he is a big part of the Regina Rams football team.

After playing in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League as member of the Battlefords Midget Stars, the next step is junior hockey for most players. For some that means junior A or B, but for a select few the next step is the Western Hockey League.

You could likely call it home course advantage, as the John Paul II golf team dominated the competition in the team category at the Battle West District Golf Tournament.

A strong field of more than 50 golfers took part in the North Battleford Golf and Country Club Championship on the weekend. Brett Harrison led all golfers early on and never looked back, as he won the men's gold championship.

After a successful baseball season in 2011-12 representing Canada, North Battleford's own Andrew Albers will do it again this year.
