The term “fake news” has been used a lot in the last few years, sometimes very inaccurately by presidential leaders, but it is a factor nowadays with the proliferation of information in all forms of media platforms.

Mayor Marcel Roy signed a proclamation on Wednesday, declaring Friday, September 27- Sunday, September 29 as Culture Days in Weyburn. Standing with the Mayor during the signing was Alice Neufeld, the Arts and Culture Director for the City of Weyburn.

The Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division saw an increase in enrolment as of opening day of class on Sept. 3, with St. Michael and St. Olivier schools accounting for most of it. Shown above is the board of trustees for Holy Family.

The Weyburn Rotary Club’s Golf Ball Drop fundraiser, held annually in conjunction with the Estevan Rotary Club, will be held at the Weyburn Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.

School is back in session, and the 2019 YouthBiz contest is open for entries. YouthBiz is a business competition designed for Grade 6 to 12 students in southeast Saskatchewan, and is held by Community Futures Sunrise.

Four local youth will help promote the 2019 Communithon as Community Ambassadors. Jessica Dixon, Kelsi Shipley, Arianna Russell and Trisha Mariveles are excited about the opportunity to promote Communithon during the next few weeks.

The Southeast College Board is pleased to announce Patrick Stoddart, B.A., B.Ed., M.A. as the new CEO and President of Southeast College.

The Weyburn Police Service have partnered with the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation to raise money for STARS air ambulance.

The WCS Junior A and B girls teams competed in a home tournament on Friday and Saturday, and the Jr. A girls advanced to the finals. The Junior A team finished second in their pool with a record of 6-2.
