Yorkton This Week

On Sunday, June 4, the Yellowhead International Speedway was flooded with cars, drivers and spectators as the 2017 stock car racing season began. The first race of the season saw some returning racers as well as some new faces to the Yorkton track.

The Yorkton Cardinals hosted the second annual student day on Thursday, June 8. More than 700 students filled the bleachers around Jubilee Park to watch as the Cardinals played against the highway 10 rivals, the Melville Millionaires in an 11 a.m.

The Terry Fox Run has been an annual event in Yorkton for the past 34-years. But, there are concerns a 35th may not go forward this September. “We’re having a little trouble.

The Yorkton Municipal Airport is again the recipient of the Government of Saskatchewan’s Community Airport Partnership grant. This year, the airport will receive $46,500.

The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce has announced two new events for entrepreneurs in the region. The first is the Great Ideas Seminar, facilitated by Glenn Suart, Chief Strategist for Calgary-based WriteMyPlan.

The Yorkton branch of the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society meets on the second Tuesday of each month (except for July and August) at the Yorkton Public Library.

Calder’s Canada 150 Bash on July 22, 2017. These are the events that are being planned for that day: Trade Show at the Calder Community Hall from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

A new playground at York Lake Regional Park is capturing the imagination of kids and adults thanks to the support of 3 local businesses and the Yorkton Kinsmen. The playground comes at a cost of nearly $130,000 when all said and done.

Unfortunately, England fell victim to another terror attack over the weekend as seven more people, needlessly, lost their lives and dozens more suffered injuries. I don’t expect anything to change.
