Weather advances harvest operations
Harvest has been in full swing with above normal temperatures. The long weekend was a bit on the cool side and we even had to start the furnace in our camper one of those evenings. However it was a lazy weekend for us.

Seniors' activities resume after summer break
The Maidstone Drop In September meeting was held Sept. 2 with a good turnout. The centre was used during the summer for two funeral teas and a few family events. Cards resumed Sept. 5.

Time to return to routine
Holidays are over. I really enjoyed the two months holidays I spent in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Now it's time to get back to routine. Scott Kennedy of Lloydminster was here to visit his mom, Theresa Kennedy.

Up until today we have been experiencing hot weather for a number of days. During this time harvest operations have gone forward at quite a pace. Although we have not had any rain, there has been rain in some areas.

School is in, the new teachers are here, and extra-curricular activities are underway
Borden School is welcoming several new teachers this year. Jackie Corbett will be teaching Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2. Kindergarten orientation is Sept. 13 and the first day of class is Sept.

The Blaine Lake branch of Wapiti Regional Library held a children's Summer Fun Program for seven weeks throughout the summer. Attendance varied between eight to 32 local children.

The Borden Friendship Club held a barbecue for their Aug. 31 supper and celebration of birthdays. The club provided the burgers, buns and wieners and Clive Wensley supplied the birthday cake.

Visiting teachers lead VBS classes
The Mennonite Church of God in Christ held their annual Vacation Bible School for children ages five through twelve, July 18 to 22. Class 1 was taught by Joni Kuepfer from Oklahoma, with Shelly Thiessen as her assistant.
