The baseball stories started early in the morning Saturday and went well into the evening. That was exactly what the 2012 inductees of the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame would want.

"The goal is to select the 23 best players to play for the hockey team," said Battlefords North Stars coach and general manager Kevin Hasselberg nearly a week before the team opening training camp.

They are the best in the west. The Muenster Pee Wee Red Sox won gold at the AA Minor Baseball Westerns in Morden, Manitoba August 16-20. "They played really well," said coach Chad Hofmann of his team the day after they claimed their Western win.

It was an exciting experience for a young athlete. Brianne Theisen, originally of Humboldt, competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics Games in London, England at the begining of August. "Making it there was a big deal," said Theisen.

After earning the Most Valuable Player status in a provincial soccer tournament, Carlos Correa of Humboldt came up with these words: "What I love most about sports is that sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but all times the outcome is specifical

He's a familiar face on the Broncos' bench, though in the past that face has sat under a Broncos' helmet.

No tee times are needed, there is no dress code and any skill level can play a round at the new course. The North Battleford Disc Golf Course was officially unveiled Sunday in Centennial Park.

When the sun is out, so are the New Horizons, 40 strong showed up Monday. This time it took a count-back of five holes to determine a winner and a further one to determined second and third place. All came in with scores of 38.

The regular season for most hockey players is at least a month away, but that doesn't mean it isn't time for hockey to start.

As competitive as the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League was this season, followers of the sport had to expect the teams entered in provincials would put up a good fight for championships in their respective categories.
