Mayor gives Chamber report on city

The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce held its annual general meeting Friday, followed by a State-of-the-City presentation by Mayor James Wilson. Wilson said he recognizes the importance of telling the story of Council to groups such as the Chamber.

City onside with business development

The City of Yorkton will execute a memorandum of agreement with Harvard Development for the development of lands located at the intersection of Highway #9 and Broadway Street East, following unanimous support of Yorkton Council Monday.

Shelterbox fundraiser is May 12-14

Members of Yorkton's Rotary Club will be raising pledges in support of Shelterbox Canada at a fundraiser this month.

Water rates set for current year

Yorkton Council set the water rates for 2011 at its regular meeting Monday. The rates will increase by 2.8 per cent, compared to a 3.9 per cent increase in 2010. "Prior to 2006, rate increases had been less than 1.4 per cent per year.

Diabetes campaign coming up

The Canadian Diabetes Association is asking South Saskatchewan residents to open their doors when a volunteer comes knocking May 1 - 15 and make a donation that will directly impact people affected by diabetes in their community.

Mill rates set for 2011

The City of Yorkton mill rates were passed unanimously by Yorkton Council at its regular meeting Monday. City uniform mill rate down from 23.75 to 23.25 mills. The decrease in the overall mill rate is because the garbage fee is not part of the taxes.
