The 12-2 Meadow Lake White Sox and 12-2 Lloydminster Meridian Twins both grabbed 1-0 series leads in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League's semifinals Monday evening. The Twins hosted Unity and cruised to a 12-2 win.

Dear Editor This is in response to "Pawn shops not the problem'' (Regional Optimist, July 13). I have lived in Ontario and been to many places, like Toronto, London, Ottawa and Vancouver, B.C.

On July 11 I did my most unusual Exploit into the Unknown yet: I rode the city bus. What, riding the bus is not unusual? It was unusual in this case, because this was the first time I rode the bus in the Battlefords since moving here four years ago.

It had come up several times before at City Council, but the issue of donating land in the southeast quadrant of the city for a proposed Battlefords First Nations Heritage Park finally received a vote at the council meeting Monday.

At a Feb. 27 city council meeting, council voted on a resolution to continue the operation of the Agriplex Arena with city staff and proposed five-year capital improvements for the facility.

The executive director of the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce has been nominated for a prestigious national award.

Bill Samborski, general manager of facilities, provided city council with an update on the fees for the Co-op Aquatic Centre Monday.

HARTY; Leo Patrick Joseph Harty was born on January 27, 1920. Dad joined the army in 1941 and served until 1946. Upon his return he settled into farming in the Edam area in 1952. He met Evelyn Anderson and they married in 1952.
