For the first time in the Lake Lenore Lions Ice Fishing Derby’s 10 year history, there was a tie for first place. Glen Leniuk of Bruno and Dayton Klashinsky of Humboldt each caught a 6.02-pound jackfish.

NIPAWIN — A new noise bylaw aims to clear up some confusing, ambiguous language. “Truly, the noise bylaw still has the same provisions in terms of quiet times through the night, that sort of thing.

The local museum is asking the public to share any stories it has about Original Humboldt that go past the historic site’s 80-acre boundaries. Over the last decade, the Original Humboldt committee has focused on finding out what happened on the site.

NIPAWIN — A date has been set for a byelection to fill an empty spot on council. The town will begin accepting applications for nominations beginning on Jan. 30, and the byelection itself will take place on April 3.

A Humboldt-raised hockey player that made it to the Western Hockey League is hanging up his skates. Erik Gardiner, who’s ending his hockey career as the assistant captain of the Kelowna Rockets, announced his retirement Jan. 16.

Punnichy Elementary could see a major expansion to its gym. At a board meeting Jan. 16, Horizon School Division trustees voted in favour of costing out and designing a 100 square metre expansion to the school 222.
