Hi there! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and lots of turkey and trimmings to enjoy. Good food to share with loved ones at this special time is all that matters.

Saturday, Dorothy Kissick was to Lloydminster with her daughter, Cindy and Joe. Sunday she spent New Year's Day with son Craig and Theresa Kissick.

Best wishes to all students as they returned to classes last week. Have a happy and fruitful semester Our condolences to the Strasser family on the death of a husband, father and grandfather, Art Strasser.

2012 may have just begun but the registration deadline for this year's Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival is upon us. The deadline for entries this year is barely a week away, Saturday, Jan. 14.

This weekend will be a busy one for the Battlefords arts community, as they will host a large variety of programs for the general public - music, dance and otherwise. This Saturday, the galleries will be holding two events. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

New Year's Eve in Maymont was celebrated with family and friends enjoying music, games, and door prizes and, as usual, a fantastic potluck lunch.

Hope everyone had a great New Year's Day and all the best for 2012. Over Christmas a moose decided Borden was a safe haven and was seen lying in front yards and eating the fruit and branches off trees in the northeast part of the village.

Well (big sigh inserted here) it's over for another year. Unless, of course, you have Ukrainian heritage. Then you have the privilege of enjoying the cultural festivities of Ukrainian Christmas this weekend.

Here we are at the end of 2011 and entering 2012. The weather has been phenomenal and we have had the added good fortune of the livestock being able to remain on pasture.

Dec. 28: The beautiful weather had everyone away for Christmas. Milt and Lil McMillan spent Christmas at the home of their daughter, Darlene and Gary Robb.
