July 1 marks a tragic anniversary in the Northwest. It was 10 years ago on that date that the resort village of Cochin was the scene of a horrific car crash involving a vehicle driven by Norma Jean Mooswa.

The Province of Saskatchewan has announced it is continuing with funding towards targeted police initiatives for North Battleford for the coming year.

North Battleford RCMP responded to more than 70 calls for service/occurrences over a 48-hour period from 6 a.m. Monday, June 30 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 2.

Shaun Pete, 39, of the Richard area died Monday after an SUV hit a pedestrian on Highway 40. Blaine Lake RCMP were called to the scene 30 kilometres east of Hafford at about 11:50 p.m. Pete was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old youth was due in provincial court following an incident in which a vehicle struck an apartment building on Winder Crescent early Wednesday.

The North Battleford Fire Department, RCMP and WPD Ambulance all attended a call early Wednesday morning in which a vehicle struck a building on Winder Crescent, causing major damage to both.
