Notes from the week in high school sports: The HCI boys' golf team took home the bronze medal at the provincial championships in Goodsoil on Sept. 27-28. The team members were Jett Tuchsherer, Tayden Wallin, Spencer Hill and Matthew Sokolan.

The Battlefords Sharks took on the Melville Fox FM Prairie Fire in back-to-back road games Saturday and Sunday to open their season. Led by forward Mallory Roy, the Sharks were able to split the weekend set.

After the Battlefords North Stars lost to Melville Friday, head coach and general manager Kevin Hasselberg said changes needed to be made, and he followed through.

The Humboldt Broncos split a pair of games last week, losing 6-3 in La Ronge before beating Melfort 4-1 at home. In La Ronge on Sept. 25 the Broncos held a 2-1 lead after the first 20 minutes, but it was all downhill from there.

After trouncing their opponents through three preseason games, the Battlefords Midget Stars kept the hot start going into the regular season.

Penalties, penalties, penalties. For two periods it looked like their penalty-killing would be the story of the game for the Battlefords North Stars.
