After the first full day of competition in Meadow Lake, for the Saskatchewan Summer Games, Rivers West has five medals. Leading the way is Alex Anderson of Battleford.

Nine strokes under par is what it took to be crowned the 2012 Saskatchewan Amateur Men's Championship winner last week in Yorkton.

The Saskatchewan Senior Men's and Women's Championship were underway this week in Melfort and several golfers from the Battlefords made the trip to compete in the tournament.

It was a learning experience said North Battleford Beavers coach Dean Dimmick of the Saskatchewan Baseball Association's Mosquito AA Provincial Championship in North Battleford on the weekend.

The three Cardinals, three brothers, Kenneth, Orvil and Allan Mything were directly and indirectly involved with their local ball team, the Climax Cardinals, for nearly six decades.

The Muenster Bantam Red Sox are Provincial A baseball champions for the second year in a row, but they earned this year's title at home. The Muenster Red Sox hosted the Bantam A Provincial Championship from July 20-22.

It was a weekend for winning. The Muenster Pee Wee Red Sox won their Provincial Championship in Estevan the weekend of July 21-22. "We went undefeated in our pool. We won all three games," said coach Chad Hofmann.

The weekend wins continued for Muenster with the Midget AA Red Sox winning their league finals in Melville July 20-22. Their win followed the Mosquito, Bantam and Pee Wee teams all winning their provincial championships on the weekend as well.

Last year they came close; this year, they went all the way. The Muenster Mosquito Red Sox baseball team claimed the A2 Provincial Championship on July 22, after a weekend-long four-team tournament held in Muenster.

It's pretty incredible for Humboldt to have produced two Olympic athletes, and they wanted to show their support.
