It was a courageous struggle for a local hockey player at a young age and one that inspired many in the hockey community and Battlefords. Nico Hawryliw would have been celebrating his 20th birthday this week, as he waas born Jan. 16, 1992.

Battleford Curling Club saw some high-pressure curling action over the weekend as rinks from across Region 14 battled to advance in the provincial curling playdowns.

It was a beautiful day at the races. The Carlton Trail Ski Club held the Cross Country Skiing Saskatchewan Cup on January 14 at the Humboldt Golf Club (HGC).

The Humboldt Broncos are more than halfway through their regular season. Soon it will be playoff time, and before you know it, the month of May will be here.

Teams score big with the WHL Last year, it was the Battlefords Novice Rams who had an opportunity to go to a WHL game through the Western Hockey League Youth Experience Contest.

Let the provincial journeys begin. The draws are out and some of the games are scheduled and now the most exciting part of the hockey season is here. Of the 20 teams entered in senior D provincials, three are in the Northwest region of the province.

The Battlefords Midget Stars were looking for some redemption against the Prince Albert Mintos Wednesday, but that wasn't the case at the Civic Centre.

Mitch Berg scored the game-winning goal Wednesday when the Battlefords North Stars faced off against the Melfort Mustangs. Fortunately for the Battlefords they picked him up in a trade last week.
