It was a strong start to a historic season of hockey. The Humboldt Broncos won their first game of the 2011-12 season over the Notre Dame Hounds September 17.

The Battlefords Sharks started the 2011-12 exhibition season Sunday at the Civic Centre, as they hosted the skilled Saskatoon Stars. It was the first game action for the Sharks, while the Stars had played two previous games.

After busting out of the gate with a win to start the exhibition season, the Battlefords Midget Stars have struggled to win in their final four exhibition games.

The John Paul II Crusaders football team got a taste of the end zone in their third game of existence and now should be hungry for more.

Just one game was played Thursday in the North Battleford Touch Football League, and it was an important one. The Huskies, who went 8-0 to that point lost 30-14 to the Rhinos, who move into a tie for first place with an 8-1 record.

The home opener didn't go as planned for the Battlefords North Stars, but they did spoil Kindersley's home opener the next night, earning a split in the home-and-home series to start the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League regular season.

The sanctioned horseshoe tournament in Saskatoon Sept. 10 was a success for a number of the local club members. Frank Ironstand was the big winner, as he earned two first place finishes.
