The YRHS cheer squad competed over the weekend with Balfour Collegiate and Evan Hardy as they took to the road for Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) cheerleading competition.

The annual hockey game fundraiser is set for March 21. The staff of both Yorkton high schools will face off against the students in a fun game at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

Last weekend Yorkdale Central School Hosted the East Central District Athletic Association Junior High School Boys Basketball Championship. The games were played at the YRHS.

The Bantam UCT Yorkton Terriers opened up their 2012 playoff run over the weekend on a good note, beating the Regina Oilers, 4-1 to open up their best-of-three series. "We outplayed them the majority of the game," offers head coach Grant Ottenbreit.

The Sherring Gold Pee Wee AA Terriers opened up provincial playdowns Thursday night with an 8-2 win over the Estevan Sherritt Coal Bruins in South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League play. The game saw Yorkton score five goals in the second period.

The Yorkton Martial Arts Training Centre will be holding their 8th Annual Abominable Snow Slam martial arts challenge this weekend at Dr. Brass School in Yorkton.

In provincials girls' bantam hockey action, the Springside Parkland Lions' girls' hockey team played Weyburn in two games on Feb. 25 and Feb. 22 and won both games.

The Cab Female Athlete of the Month is a member of the senior girls basketball team. Actually, this athlete was a key member of the senior girls volleyball team and provincial bronze medal girls soccer team.

A local Pee Wee hockey team travelled to Quebec for 10 days this month. "It was really fun," offered goaltender Alex Geddes. "It was a big city, an old city, with lots of one-way streets," recalled McKenzie Welke.

Their best of three playoff series got off to a pretty good start unfortunately the same could not be said about the finish.
