Three teams battled for two spots during the Affinity Credit Union Senior Men's Playdowns on the weekend and one home town team is moving on. The Battleford Curling Club hosted two teams from Unity and a local rink skipped by Rae Morrison.

It's official, the Battlefords Midget Stars will not make the playoffs for the eighth straight season.

After splitting their first two games, it didn't appear the Battlefords North Stars would come back with more than two points from their weekend road trip, as they headed into the final period of their three-game in three-night span.

The forth draw of the New Horizons spring curling season was completed Jan. 24. The Rogers rink is leading after winning all of their games. Close behind are Gordey, Hall and Scott, who all have only one loss.

For the first time this season, the Battlefords AAA Sharks scored more than two goals in a game, unfortunately the Prince Albert Bears doubled them for an 8-4 win Wednesday.

The Women's Scotties Provincial playdowns continued on January 26. At 2 p.m., two local teams, Campbell and Gillies, faced off against each other. Gillies won the draw 5-4.

Saturday marks the start of the final week of the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League's regular season and the standings and the races are heating up. Battleford leads the pack with a 12-2-0 and won both their games last week.

Often when a player moves from the junior hockey ranks to NCAA in the United States the term is that they are heading south. Well, for Battlefords North Stars forward Blake Tatchell he is heading off to play NCAA hockey, but is heading north.

For the second time this season, Table Mountain hosted a SaskTel Sask Cup event and for the second time the local skiers fared well. It was a perfect weekend for Sarah Jones in the 17-19 ladies' division.

Before the losing streak could stretch out of control, the Battlefords North Stars quickly put an end to it and two players who had key roles in earning two wins received Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League player of the week runner-up honours.
