The Battlefords North Stars went head-to-head Thursday night in a busy night at the Civic Centre Friday.

When a team outshoots their opponents by 21 shots the end result is often a win. That was the case for the Battlefords Midget Stars Thursday when they played in the Willow Cree Memorial Sport Centre against the Beardy's Blackhawks.

"It was kind of best case scenario for us," said North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings head coach Jamie Sommerfeld, after his team beat Evan Hardy in their final game of the regular season Thursday.

Kyle Schmidt's recall by the Western Hockey League's Saskatoon Blades, left the North Stars with just six defenceman on the roster.

The Battlefords Sharks kept pace with the one of the top teams in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League Thursday, thanks to some solid goaltending from Rachel Mitchell. Mitchell stopped 27 shots in the 7-0 loss against the Saskatoon Stars.

On the weekend, 568 high school athletes gathered at Echo Valley Provincial Park near Regina for the 2012 Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association's provincial cross-country meet.

The Battlefords Bantam AA Barons started the regular season on home ice and skated to one win and a loss on the weekend. The Barons opened the season Friday night in Battleford against Notre Dame and won that game 7-2.

The North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings fell to the Tommy Douglas Tigers Friday, one week after winning their first game of the season.

Once again there were bits and pieces of strong play and success for the Battlefords North Stars, but it wasn't enough.

The Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks nine-man football team was defeated for the third time this season, again at the hands of the Melfort Comets on Friday at Glenn Hall Park.The final score was 45-14 for the Comets.
