There was a lot of kicking and punching going on at the Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) gymnasium over the weekend, but in a constructive way. The Humboldt Tae Kwon-Do club played host to the 2011 Sask Cup Tae Kwon-Do tournament on October 29.

October will be a month the Battlefords Midget Stars will hope to quickly put behind them. The Stars went 0-9 during the month and fall to 0-11-0-0 on the season after losing 8-2 in Regina and 8-3 in Wilcox to the Notre Dame Hounds.

The Battlefords Midget Barons season is well under way, as they are six games into the season. The Barons played twice at home on the weekend and fell 7-3 and 8-3, despite some impressive goaltending efforts.

The Battlefords Bantam AA Barons trailed the Swift Current Raiders 4-0 five minutes into the second period, but that wasn't enough to keep them from earning their first regular season win.

The Battlefords North Stars are hot. "It is awesome, we are on quite a role everything is working out right now," said Battlefords North Stars' leading scorer Blake Tatchell.

"Being airborne, the excitement and competition," were the answers given by a smiling 11-year-old Nicholas Lesko when asked what he likes best about the sport of motocross racing.

The unhittable left-hander, as he was known around baseball diamonds during his minor baseball years, Andrew Albers has a similar reputation as a 26-year-old, only on a much larger scale.

The Battlefords North Stars have taken care of business on the ice recently with six straight wins, first place in the SJHL and a spot on the CJHL's top 20 rankings. Now it is time for the fans in the Battlefords to do their part.

The North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings strapped on their pads and helmets for quarter-final playoff action in Saskatoon Wednesday night, as they took on the Bedford Road Redmen.

It's not just hockey players on the ice at the Elgar Petersen Arena (EPA) in Humboldt these days. Members of Skate Humboldt took to the ice for the first official week of lessons and practices on October 17, reported club president Larry Durand.
