After falling to 0-13 on the season, the Battlefords Midget Stars finally snapped their losing streak with a 5-4 win in Swift Current against the eighth place Legionnaires.

Although it is simply an exhibition game on the schedule between the Notre Dame Hounds and the Battlefords Phoenix Sports AA Bantam Barons, it was a battle to the end between the two teams Friday night at the Battleford Arena.

Graham Hildebrand once again was mentioned in the SJHL player of the week honours. Hildebrand, who was named the goaltender of the month early this week for October, was an honourable mention for goaltender of the week.

The Battlefords North Stars are the team to beat in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, but they simply refuse to lose. The North Stars won their ninth straight game Saturday night with a 2-1 victory at home against the Humboldt Broncos.

What's new in the SJHL? Well, a lot and unless you have been living under a rock you would know the Battlefords North Stars are the hottest team in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

For the first time the Saskatchewan Development Model Partners issued $24,000 in scholarship money to Saskatchewan hockey players and athletes from the Battlefords earned a portion of those funds.

Jeff Bridgeman of Unity has accomplished something special. Bridgeman has qualified to be part of the Canadian Men's Triathlon team which will compete in the ITU World Championship Series Final, a four-day event set to take place from Oct.

Both John Paul II soccer teams competed in provincials on the weekend, the girls in Regina and boys in Yorkton.

With a team full of new coaches and fresh rookies, the John Paul II Crusaders football team took to the field for the first time in the school's 25 year history Sept. 2.

Thye won the first, but lost the second and the third. The Humboldt Broncos pulled out a win over the Yorkton Terriers, but fell to the Melville Millionaires and the Battlefords North Stars in their three away games this week.
