The Northwest was active on the weekend and competitive in the provincial volleyball championships across the province.

The Maidstone Jets are the defending North Saskatchewan River Hockey League champions, but they remain winless through their first three games.

The Battlefords Bantam AA Barons are preparing for the final push of the season before the Christmas break, as they sit at 5-5-0 on the season. The Barons won their last game by a 7-4 score.

Sweet Provincial silver. That's the taste the Annaheim Rebels Senior Boys' volleyball team had in their mouths after the weekend.

It wasn't a good weekend for the Humboldt Broncos. The Junior A hockey team lost both of their games, one at home on Friday and another away on Saturday, to make it three losses in a row.

Four of the teams in the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League were in action on the weekend, as the season officially started for Cut Knife, Perdue, Hafford and Spiritwood.

As the Battlefords North Stars moved a game over .500, they held the seventh spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Source Embroidery Power Rankings.

The Battleford AAA Sharks hosted Swift Current on the weekend and had some stellar goaltending and defence, but the offence couldn't execute.

"We had a four game win streak coming in and we had a chance to prove that we haven't played our best up to this point," said Connor Creech after the Battlefords North Stars beat the Flin Flon Bombers for the first time this season.

As the weather changed the sports moved from outdoors to indoors and one of the busy places in the community is the North Battleford Bowlarena, whether for recreational or competitive bowling.
